NFL SHOWDOWN — Roger Goodell DEFIES Critics and Stands by Bad Bunny as Super Bowl Halftime Headliner: “We’re Not Backing Down.” 🇺🇸 The battle for America’s biggest stage has officially begun. Despite fierce backlash and accusations of “anti-American” sentiment over his past comments about ICE, the NFL is refusing to budge — confirming Bad Bunny will remain the Super Bowl Halftime Show headliner. Commissioner Roger Goodell acknowledged the uproar, admitting there’s been “plenty of blowback,” but stood firm: 💬 “This decision was carefully thought through — and it stands.” Then came Bad Bunny’s response — a 33-word statement, delivered live in Spanish on Saturday Night Live, that instantly flipped the narrative. Fans called it “a victory speech disguised as art,” while critics accused him of “turning halftime into politics.” Either way, the moment was seismic — and it just redefined what it means to take the field.

The National Football League confirmed Wednesday that it would not be dropping Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl halftime show despite backlash.

Some conservatives and supporters objected to popular rapper and singer Bad Bunny performing due to his comments about the Trump administration.

“It’s carefully thought through,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.

“I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism,” he continued. “It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.”

Bad Bunny’s real name is Benito Antonio Martinez and he has said in the past that he would not perform shows in the U.S. because of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

The Puerto Rican singer and rapper has also faced allegations that he hated America.

Bad Bunny addressed the criticism of him performing the halftime show on Saturday Night Live.

“I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl, I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy,” he said during his opening monologue.

“Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors,” he continued in Spanish. “It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
