Woman wakes from coma asking for husband then makes a very tragic discovery. Angela Hartung woke up in a hospital surrounded by unfamiliar sounds and faces. Disoriented and in pain, she asked for her husband John and wondered where her two small children were. She believed she was 36, but the truth was much different.
Angela was actually 51 and her children Abigail and Philip were adults, 17 and 23 years old. Angela couldn’t remember the last 15 years of her life. Each time she tried to recall her past, her mind drew a blank. She kept seeing a man by her bedside, assuming he was a doctor. But this man wasn’t a doctor. He was Jeff, her second husband.
Angela had no memory of marrying him or the life they had built together. The more she learned, the more she realized how much she had forgotten. You’ll see. Angela had been hit by a car in October 2013 while crossing a street in New York. She was put into a medicallyinduced coma due to a severe brain injury. Doctors had told her family there was little hope for her recovery and they had prepared Jeff for the worst.
When Angela woke up, she had no memory of her life with Jeff. She was devastated to learn that John, her first husband, had died in 1998, and she had gone through the pain of his death and burial. She also discovered that her father had passed away in 2010, another painful memory lost to her. Returning home to Tulsa, Oklahoma was like stepping into a life she didn’t recognize.
Jeff, however, was determined to help her remember. He filled their home with pictures and began retelling the story of their love, how they met at church, raised their kids together, and how he had proposed to her. Angela didn’t remember any of it, but she appreciated Jeff’s patience and kindness. As time passed, Angela started to rebuild her life.
Slowly, she began to fall in love with Jeff all over again. They created new memories together, focusing on the future rather than the past. In June 2018, they renewed their vows in Central Park, surrounded by family and friends, reaffirming their commitment to each other. Angela may not remember everything, but she knows she is loved and cherished.
Jeff’s dedication gave her a second chance to experience life’s joys, and together they found a way to move forward hand in hand.
